LEGISLATIVE ACTION & ADVOCACY

Statewide Youth Advocacy Priorities

YAAB youth leaders across Tennessee have identified key advocacy priorities: expanding the federal definition of homelessness to include youth who are doubled up or couch-surfing; increasing funding for youth-specific housing and services; extending foster care support beyond age 18; improving access to mental health and substance use treatment; and ensuring youth voice in all policy decisions affecting young people experiencing homelessness.

Current Legislative Efforts

This bipartisan legislation has significant support. At the state level, Tennessee YAAB members advocate for increased funding for youth homeless services, protections for unaccompanied youth, and policies supporting successful transition out of foster care.
